Receiving Healing From God

Recently, Roger Braker and I were discussing that very popular verse in III John 2 that says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Roger talked about how those two, prosperity and health, go hand in hand. God can and does provide both.

Roger asked me to write some things for this blog pertaining to healing. I thank him for the invite. And, so, the following is here for your consideration.

Healing is a huge topic in the Bible. It is a subject I have studied and taught off and on for many years. I wrote a book about it many years ago. And certainly, with all that is going on in our day and time, there is great physical healing needed all over the world.

There are of course numerous scriptures you can read pertaining to healing, but one of my favorites is, “He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalm 107:20) I believe the starting point in receiving healing from God is an absolute belief that healing from God is available.

Arriving at the place of believing healing from God is available comes from an accurate understanding and believing of what God’s Word says. That’s why I love that verse, “He sent His Word and healed them.

Never underestimate the power of the Word of God. The Bible says the Word of God is quick (alive) and powerful! But it also says His Word is profitable to us when we believe it.

The Bible has many records of healing. Why are they in there? Reading those records helps to encourage us. They again reaffirm that healing from God is truly available.

When you read the record in Matthew 9 about the two blind men who received healing, the question Jesus asked them is very noteworthy. He asked, “Do you believe I am able to do this?” They said, “Yes.” They were healed.

The word of God is quick and powerful when it is believed. It’s not just hearing it. It’s not just reading it. It’s not just memorizing it. It’s not even being in the presence of Jesus Christ! Rather, do you believe!

Also, in Matthew 9 you read about a woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and received healing. Jesus did not attribute her healing to his garment, but rather he told her, “Your faith (believing) has made you whole.”

Through the Bible you read about people who received healing because they believed.

The word of God is quick and powerful. And it is of great profit when it is believed. And, yes, there may be times when it takes us a process to get to that point of believing, but, always, always remember, healing from God is still available!

In the record in Mark 9, the father of the sick child said to Jesus, “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us?” And Jesus said, “If you can believe all things are possible to him that believes.” And then the father cried out, “Lord I believe, help thou mine unbelief.”

Help my unbelief! Perhaps you can relate. Sometimes it’s a process in getting to the place of absolutely believing.

If we desire to get to the point of believing God, whatever the topic may be, we need to first know what God has to say about it. The Bible says faith, or believing, comes by hearing the Word of God. But that hearing needs to be mixed with believing. And in some cases, it may take a lot of hearing.

So, again the starting point for receiving healing from God is an absolute belief that healing from God is available.

Psalm 103:2-3 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
